2005 CHARTERING SHOWCASE
Antique & Classic Boat Charters, Inc. How does cruising the Chesapeake Bay on a classic boat that you don’t have to maintain sound? What about taking a two-week sail on a boat big enough to accommodate your whole family? What would you think about a ride on a restored World War II Liberty Ship? These are all chartering options found here on the Chesapeake Bay and the experiences they offer can be more than you
ever imagined!

Antique and Classic Boat Charters Inc., located in Nescopeck, Pa., offers boaters of all experience levels an opportunity to charter several different classic boats, including Trumpy, Jersey Speed Skiff and Chris Craft. These are the boats that many can only dream of owning. All of their charters are captained by licensed captains, so you don’t even have to brush up on your boating skills.

If you’re into powerboats, but you’re looking to charter something new, there are other companies throughout the bay that offer such services. C&C Charters located in Grasonville, Md., offers bareboat charters on a myriad of different powerboats. Bareboat chartering requires the boater to have solid experience on the water, since they are not captained cruises.

While powerboats are a draw for many, lots of people enjoy chartering sailboats. BaySail, located in Havre de Grace, Md., offers a broad range of sailboats to boaters who have a good knowledge of sailing. For those who want to brush up on their sailing expertise, BaySail offers its own sailing school. Most of the people who charter with BaySail are previous boatowners who don’t have the time to take care of their own boat and like the idea of cruising out of different locations. Some simply want to introduce their family to sailing. Either way BaySail is a great way to get out on the water.

Haven Charters is another bareboat sailing company in the Bay area, located in Rock Hall, Md. Haven Charters offers bareboat sailing not only in the Chesapeake, but also more exotic trips in the Caribbean. And if you’re looking for a chartering company that runs out of the southern portion of the Chesapeake, look no farther than East Coast Yacht Management, located in Deltaville, Va.

Another chartering company located in the lower Chesapeake Bay, Norton Yacht Sales Inc. allows experienced sailors the opportunity to cruise aboard a privately owned Hunter yacht. Some boaters have neither the time or inclination to maintain their boats; Norton’s does the job for them in exchange for listing their boats in its charter fleet. It’s also a great way for potential buyers to “try out” Hunter’s wide range of sailing vessels.

Many boaters look for a new boating experience every time they are out on the water. By joining an organization like the Freedom Boat Club you get an opportunity to choose from a variety of boats each time you go out. Membership in such clubs is a maintenance-free way of boating whenever you’d like, similar to belonging to a country club. This is a very attractive way of getting out on the water.

If you’re looking for a unique chartering experience that involves a step back in time, look no farther than Project Liberty Ship in Baltimore. Project Liberty Ship offers a chance to take a trip on the U.S.S. John Brown, a restored World
War II Liberty Ship and experience a day in 1944. You’ll be entertained by 1940s Big Band music and a military re-enactment, including fly-bys by vintage World War II aircraft. Project Liberty Ship will offer the opportunity to view the start of the Annapolis leg of the Volvo Ocean Race this coming spring.

Whether you’re an experienced boater looking to try something new, or just looking to sample different ways of getting out on the water, a wide range of chartering companies around the Bay are happy to help you. One thing’s for sure, discovering the waterways of the Bay will be an unending pleasure.
